Botanical name: Thymus vulgaris
A hardy evergreen perennial, which forms a dense, spreading dwarf shrub.
The strongly scented, aromatic leaves have a mild spicy flavor.
Harvesting: Pick the fresh leaves as needed. For drying leaves, cut entire plant just before if flowers, tie in small bunches and hang in the shade.
Use: Thyme enhances meats, soups, vegetables and poultry stuffing. Chop and use with discretion. It is usually a part of the bouquet garnish.
Sow: An ideal herb to be grown direct in pots and containers. Keep moist.
Care: Cover lightly with potting mix, firm down and keep moist with fine mist of water.
Water regularly so that soil is damp but not wet.
Do not allow young seedlings to dry out.
For best results, apply fertilizer at weekly intervals.
